Why do you stay in prison when the door is wide open?
While the Rumi poem is profound and I see his point, I know that the struggle to get out of the prison, from whatever it is we’re struggling to break free of, is all too real! The truth is sometimes we cannot even see the door because we’re so filled with fear, doubt, self-loathing, grief, and inner blindness. Today, just take a moment to breath in and out, sit quietly and see what rises within. Notice the emotion you’re trying not to feel or the memory that is rising over and over again. The first step to seeing the door is awareness and that is a gradual process. My hope is that you will be gentle with yourself for a moment and begin the practice of awareness. Breathing in and breathing out.
